History
Foundations and archives of artefacts found by archeologists shows that the building of the foundations this property goes back to 1343. It was not exactly clear who the very first owners were , but most likely a blueblood family who served Charles the IV during his reign of the Bavarian-Roman-Bohemian empire which stretched into several lands of then old Europe.
In the 15th century the occupants were the aristocratic Tavikovsky family until the Berchtold(s) came in 1633 and added the baroque touch that still can be found today. The courtyard part of the castle was later built in 1636 and many parts of the entire castle has remained intact wherein the tower and former residential part is now used as a townhall. The Berchtold(s) also built the fountain in the courtyards ( now also property of the town hall ) and a chapel in the Rococo style. The last descendant of the Berchtold(s)owned the property until the beginning of the 19th century. It was empty until it was confiscated shortly during the second world war by the Wickenburg(s) and eventually fell into the hands of the Communists. Sadly in this period a lot of valuable property fell into looters '
hands . A famous shoe manufacturer, which is still a well recognized brandname, was the last occupant in the end of the 60's until the late 90s before it was bought by the present group of investors in 2006. The last occupants converted the L form part of the castle into an assembly factory housing up to 1200 workers during peak season of production until the strong competition from Asia came so they stopped producing and started importing like everyone else. The present investors have restored and renovated majority of the neglected parts and is always open to ideas from serious parties and experts as to maximizing the space, design and business potential of Castle 1636 .
